Why weight matters before you send parts for finishing
Purchasing orders in pieces, but finishing plants work in kilograms — hardening and plating prices are quoted per kg, and furnace/line capacity is planned by batch weight. This tool bridges the two units so the very first quote is accurate.
Weights are derived from DIN 933 / 912 / 934 / 125 nominal geometry plus steel density — not from any single maker's catalog — so they apply to any brand within roughly ±10%.
Handy rule: the weight of one piece in grams equals the weight of 1,000 pieces in kilograms. An M8 nut ≈ 5 g/pc = 5 kg per 1,000 pcs. When you send work, quote both the piece count and approximate total weight — we cross-check before starting.

Fastener Weight FAQ
How much do 1,000 M10 nuts weigh?
About 11 kg (an M10 DIN 934 nut weighs roughly 11 g). An M10×40 hex bolt runs about 33 kg per 1,000 pcs. Use the calculator above for any spec from M3 to M24.
Why does a finishing plant ask for batch weight?
Because hardening and zinc plating are priced per kilogram, and furnace/plating-line capacity is planned by weight per cycle. An accurate weight up front gets you a faster, more precise quote.
How accurate is the calculation?
Within roughly ±10% of real parts, since head and thread dimensions vary slightly between makers. For critical jobs, weigh 10–20 real samples and average the per-piece weight.
Does the chart work for stainless or other materials?
Stainless steel is only 1–2% heavier than carbon steel, so use the chart as-is. Brass is about 8% heavier and aluminium about 65% lighter — scale by density.
